Chicxulub Crater and Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

The 65 million year old, 112 mile wide ring structure is thought to be the site of an asteroid impact of sufficient size (6 to 12 miles wide) to cause major global disruptions. The event is known as the K-T event (Cretaceous-Tertiary Mass Extinction event) which killed about 70 percent of all species then living on Earth, including the dinosaurs.
